Stone-Coated Steel Roofing in Fort Worth
Explore TEK stone-coated steel for your Fort Worth or DFW home. Start with a roof inspection, compare profiles and installation details, and get a project-specific scope.
A stone-coated steel roof built around your home
SkyGuard Roofing Solutions is based in Fort Worth and serves homeowners across Dallas–Fort Worth. TEK is our main stone-coated steel roofing product line. We start with the condition and shape of your roof, then discuss the profile, assembly and installation scope that fit the property. A material upgrade should come with clear construction details, not just a color sample.
If you are still deciding whether to replace the roof, our roof replacement assessment compares the existing condition with your goals. A leak or recent storm does not automatically mean the entire roof needs replacement.
What is stone-coated steel roofing?
Stone-coated steel combines formed steel panels with a stone-granule finish. TEK offers shake, tile and shingle profiles, giving homeowners a choice of shapes rather than the raised vertical seams associated with standing seam. Review the TEK product and technical resources alongside physical samples; a screen cannot show every texture or color variation.
For your proposal, identify the exact product name, profile and color. Different TEK panels can have different installation requirements. The selected panel should be documented consistently in the estimate, technical information and warranty records.
Battens, direct-to-deck installation and foam
There is no single installation method for every stone-coated steel roof. The Intertek CCRR-0443 evaluation report includes both batten-and-foam configurations and direct-to-deck configurations for listed standard Hurricane Metal Shake panels. Other panels and assemblies have their own requirements; the method for one TEK product should not be assumed suitable for another.
Our scope discussion covers the existing deck, underlayment, attachment, valleys, wall connections, penetrations and roof edges. Ask which approved assembly is proposed and how its details will be followed. The TEK Hurricane Metal Shake installation manual provides product-specific installation guidance; it is not a substitute for assessing your roof.
Foam used in some configurations can provide panel support. That is a separate question from whole-roof insulation or household energy savings. Confirm whether foam is part of the selected assembly and what documentation supports any thermal claim. We do not assume a particular R-value or promise lower utility bills from the panel choice alone.
Impact ratings and Fort Worth storm exposure
Section 4.3 of CCRR-0443 states that the metal panels recognized in the report meet UL 2218 Class 4 impact resistance. Match that finding to the proposed product and required assembly. A laboratory impact classification is not a promise that a roof will be hail-proof, free of cosmetic damage or covered for every storm loss.
After hail or wind, start with documented conditions and the actual repair needs. Our Fort Worth and DFW storm-damage roofing service explains assessment and construction planning. Contact your insurer directly about policy coverage, cosmetic-damage provisions and any product discount requirements.
Cost, appearance and long-term value
A useful estimate shows what you are buying. Roof area and complexity, tear-off, deck repairs, access, trim, flashing and the selected installation method all affect the scope. Ask how concealed damage and approved changes will be priced, and compare proposals with equivalent preparation and finish details.
Balance the initial cost with the appearance you want, the maintenance you can manage and the written protection offered. A longer warranty term does not establish a guaranteed service life or resale return. We do not use a single price per square foot or a promised payback period for every Fort Worth home.
Stone-coated steel, asphalt shingles and standing seam deserve a project-specific comparison. Our Fort Worth metal roofing selection guide explains the difference between stone-coated profiles and standing-seam systems. Written warranties and ongoing care
Request the warranty that applies to your exact product before signing. The published TEK Shake and Shake PRO limited warranty is a product-specific document; its terms should not be generalized to every TEK profile. Confirm the current terms, exclusions, registration steps, transfer conditions and claim process for the proposed roof.
Keep manufacturer coverage separate from any contractor workmanship terms in your agreement. Retain the final product selection, contract, installation records and warranty documents together. Ask for the selected system’s maintenance guidance and a plan for checking drainage, flashing and penetrations. Arrange qualified help for roof access rather than walking on panels or making an unsupported repair yourself.
How we plan the installation
- Assess the property. Discuss leaks, storm history, roof condition, access and any existing ventilation concerns.
- Choose the product and assembly. Compare profiles and samples, then identify the appropriate installation details and written scope.
- Check approvals. Confirm the jurisdiction and applicable permit, HOA or historic-property requirements before work. Our Fort Worth roofing page links local review resources.
- Agree on project expectations. Document preparation, property protection, scheduling, change approvals, cleanup and the records provided at completion.
Stone-coated steel roofing questions
How long will a stone-coated steel roof last?
There is no reliable lifespan promise for every roof. The selected product, installation, exposure, maintenance and actual condition matter. Review the written product information and care requirements; a warranty period is not a prediction of the roof’s service life.
Will my insurer pay for a stone-coated steel upgrade?
Ask your insurer whether your policy covers the loss and how an upgraded material would be treated. SkyGuard can document roof conditions and provide construction estimates. Coverage decisions belong to the insurer; review the Texas Department of Insurance roofing guidance before discussing claim terms.
Does every TEK roof use foam or battens?
No. Requirements depend on the specific panel and approved assembly. Ask to see the applicable installation detail and confirm the role of any foam. Panel support does not establish a whole-roof energy-performance claim.
Can stone-coated steel go over my existing roof?
Do not assume an overlay is appropriate. The existing assembly, deck condition, product instructions and applicable code must be reviewed first. The estimate should state whether tear-off is included and how concealed damage will be handled.
Is impact resistance the same as an insurance discount?
No. An insurer may have its own eligibility and documentation requirements. Confirm the exact product, installation evidence and policy terms directly with the insurer before counting on a discount. A Class 4 rating does not eliminate storm risk.
